CASSPER NYOVEST; A ROLE MODEL OF YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS

South African rapper, songwriter and record producer Refiloe Maele Phoolo professionally known as Cassper Nyovest is regarded as one of the most successful artists in South Africa . Nyovest rose to fame with his songs Gusheshe and Doc Shebeleza which became popular not only to hip hop fans but to all those who appreciate the power of creativity.

The 28 year old Mafikeng born rapper dropped out of school at the age of 16 and decided to pursue music as a career. Casper Nyovest established his own record label , Family Tree Records in 2014 becoming the CEO of his brand. He has worked with well established artists including The Game, DJ Drama, Stonebwoy and Khuli Chana among others. Cassper is one of the artists that has understood the business of the music world, he is an entrepreneur as he creates in order to generate some income. Cassper Nyovest owns a clothing line which is one of the most recognised clothing brands in South Africa .

Entrepreneurs are driving a revolution that  is transforming and changing economies worldwide. It takes an innovative mind to become an entrepreneur and a great deal of bravery in establishing new business. The rejection of change is likely to occur when starting a new thing but it takes perseverance to turn that idea into reality. Cassper Nyovest started a series of creating his own events ‘Fill Up ‘ concerts since 2015 and he has never stopped.

He was successful in 2015 for filling up the Dome in Johannesburg, as all tickets were sold out. Cassper has given others the opportunity to dream big and to make change in his own country, that is real and impactful. The story of a school drop out hosting mega concerts is inspiring because it took creative confidence to establish what, Nyovest has now. Fill up has become an annual event including Orlando Stadium in 2016, FNB in 2017 and Moses Mabhida in 2018. The rapper is set to host fill up Royal Bafokeng in December this year inspite of alleged loses from last years event .

Cassper Nyovest is a risk taker and someone always willing to build something from nothing. The risks of having major concerts are filled with stress, heartbreaks and emotions because it can leave a person in heavy debt. Cassper opened up on social media about his sponsorship struggles  “No sponsors from the NW gov yet.Santse ke kopa thuso .It’s hard outchea bro ,” .He added that it is hard to be a black entrepreneur in South Africa but he will keep soldiering on .Fill Up Royal Bafokeng is a month away from glory or failure.

Cassper seems not to be only focused on making money but rather adding value to his brand that can attract potential clients. Music concerts are meant to connect people from different backgrounds  and for various cultures to come together .There is power in collaboration as it leads to evolution .Entrepreneurship can bring people together to reach one common goal and break political and social barriers through collaborative efforts and Cassper Nyovest is leading a generation of entrepreneurs and thinking of ways to help people to have better life experiences.
